It’s just a print

Given Emily Deschanel’s longstanding commitment to animal welfare and vegetarianism and such, it’s not at all surprising that she’d make an appearance for Mercy For Animals, but I have to admit, I wouldn’t have expected this dress:

I mean, yeah, great dress, but it seems like it might suggest something contrary to the mission. (The organization’s annual gala was held Friday night at The London West Hollywood.)

Well, that didn’t last long

Earlier this week I professed to be puzzled at the very un-Zooey-esque Tommy Hilfiger dress Zooey Deschanel wore to the Met Ball, which looked for all the world like seersucker, as though ZD were the sucker who bought it at Sears. (Mr Hilfiger would like you to know that this is in fact gingham, which is even haute-r couture.) Perhaps more to the point, though, was the complete absence of bangs, making her look like — well, like her older sister Emily, sort of. Not that Emily is a slouch or anything.

But that was Monday. Here’s Zooey, hanging around outside before her appearance on David Letterman’s Late Show on Tuesday:

I’m almost afraid to hunt down pictures of whatever the heck she was doing Wednesday.

No hint of Temperance

Given the dozens of megabytes I’ve devoted to, um, whatshername over the past couple of years, it’s about time I showed some appreciation for her older sister. Accordingly, here’s a shot of Emily Deschanel at Bringing Farm Sanctuary to All: A Celebration of Expanding Compassion, in a slightly-quirky (maybe it runs in the family) dress by BCBGMaxAzria:

Emily’s current gig, you may recall, is playing Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan in the Fox series Bones.

Are there any more like you at home?

We interrupt the ongoing Zooey Deschanel parade to bring you this shot of sister Emily:

If you’re curious about the backdrop, see this.

In stereo where available

Inasmuch as my only bid for Rule 5 coverage this week was a grainy scan of a photo of America’s Hottest Soon-To-Be-Ex-Governor as a teenager, and inasmuch as I’ve been keeping this on my desktop for entirely too long, here’s a not-necessarily-gratuitous shot of Emily and Zooey Deschanel:

Emily and Zooey Deschanel as seen in The New York Times

(Click to embiggen.) This apparently originally appeared in the Sunday New York Times, which gives me one less reason to cheer at their financial discomfiture.
