A curiously colorless book from P. J., perhaps because he’s trying to make a statement about an entire generation in the same space he used to use to denounce small subsets of the population that needed denouncing just then. He hasn’t lost his ability to turn a phrase, and there are plenty of sections that deserve to be read out loud, but the overall tone is more “Shut up and eat your oatmeal” and less “This sucks,” and we don’t go to O’Rourke for breakfast advice unless it involves booze.
