Review

This is a charming memoir in graphic form, part Bildungsroman and part laff riot. Our heroine, twentysomething cartoonist that she is, resists the very idea of Caribbean cruises, until the parental units talk her into going along with her grandparents, now somewhere around 90 and probably not able to look after themselves away from home. “What am I doing here?” is her recurrent theme — and, it turns out, it’s a theme that runs in the family. Knisley’s characters are wonderfully drawn, and when she bothers with a background, it’s always perfectly apt. Take this book with you on your next cruise — or on the bus.
