A fun theatre piece positing the idea that English majors and non-English majors (or English non-majors, perhaps) occupy different segments of the universe, whether they like it or not. Mark Dever has one of the great speech impediments of all time: women tend to make him speak in blank verse. Barbara Holt forces poor Mark into purest iambic pentameter, so clearly she must be The One. She’s not interested, however. Inevitably, there’s a third party. This one’s not as predictable as it could have been, and the writing is cheerfully zany. There’s a companion piece, Dennis Thompson Goes On Strike, in which Mr Thompson has had it up to here with the idea that some mere playwright can tell him what to do.
