Offense: Checking out a corporate notebook and bringing it back defiled with some sixty-four pieces of assorted spyware and associated crap. Posted at 4:47 PM to PEBKAC
When I received my work laptop, the first thing I did was reformat the drive and configure the software the way I wanted it. I ran firewalls, and prevented my own company from installing spyware every time I plugged into the LAN.
When I turned it in, I wiped (wiped, not formatted) the drive prior to giving it back.
Yeah, but you were going to be using it for an extended period, by which is meant "longer than the three days this doofus had the damn machine."
If we assign a notebook permanently (so to speak), we don't fuss, so long as it's still able to perform its corporate functions properly. But this over-the-weekend assignment business does not entitle bearer to download everything in sight and then expect the sysadmin (or worse, me) to fix it.
At least he remembered to delete all the JPEGs of the Olsen twins' faces photoshopped onto pr0n-stars' bodies...
